[Monday, December 22, 2025] Samkwang Co., Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for technology cooperation in the field of smart glasses and wearable optical devices with the Korea Optical Industry Promotion Agency. 

Attending the signing ceremony were Samkwang executives including Kim Cheol-soo of the Global MD Division, CEO Jeong Sun-baek of the Global AD Division, Advisor Yang Chun-geum, Executive Vice President Jeong Young-jun of the Global Development Center, and Executive Vice President Choi Jin-young of the Global New Business Division. From the Korea Optical Industry Promotion Agency, four representatives attended, including President Kim Jong-han and Division Head Do Gi-tae.

Through this agreement, Samkwang and KOPIA agreed to cooperate in various areas, including: ▲ joint development of technologies related to smart glasses and wearable optical devices ▲ development and advancement of optical-electronic convergence components ▲ joint production of prototypes and performance verification ▲ joint discovery and promotion of government R&D and regulatory exemption projects ▲ linkage between companies and institutions based on the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Ophthalmic Optics Industry Cluster ▲ joint promotion and business cooperation at domestic and global exhibitions, seminars, etc.

At the signing ceremony, Director Kim Jong-han of the Korea Ophthalmic Optics Industry Promotion Agency stated, “We are delighted to have this opportunity to collaborate with Samkwang,” adding, “As Samkwang currently manufactures eyeglasses, we believe they possess significant expertise. We hope to further advance technology together and mutually benefit each other going forward.”

In response, Samkwang CEO Kim Cheol-soo remarked, “Optical technology is a field deeply integrated into our daily lives.” He continued, “As technological advancements unfold in diverse directions, this partnership between the Korea Optical Industry Promotion Agency and Samkwang presents an opportunity to develop innovative products with great ideas, setting new milestones in the global market.” 

Based on this agreement, Samkwang plans to strengthen its technological competitiveness in the smart glasses and wearable optical devices sector. It will also continuously pursue joint research and development and explore business opportunities through collaboration with relevant institutions.
